General feedback about 5.1

I’m really excited about 5.2!

I believe this update had some polishing issues, but that’s not a problem: we’re still in pre-alpha and this kind of thing is just part of the landscape. I’m going to talk about things that I think might not change in the future. and leave aside placeholders stuff (like checkpoint models or the Superblocks organization).

The only problem I see with the current character physics is that the player can’t climb tiny blocks. This makes stairs like this require hoping like a bunny and that’s slightly annoying, I believe it’s not a difficult feature to add and it greatly improves gameplay.
Current lighting also makes maps with blue skies appear to have a constant blue filter on screen. It’s not bloom or AO. Could be a Godot issue tho?

The current Gizmo is quite a pleasure to use when it works.
What I would like to see:

  • Clicking outside the model closes the Gizmo.
  • Clicking inside the model makes the Gizmo teleport to my cursor.

Sometimes the avatar zooming effect looks like some sort of visual glitch. It may be a matter of habit.

Pressing P to enter build mode should immediately discard the respawn countdown, remove effects like poison, heal me, and reset play mode position.

The Walljump Behavior currently completely disregards falling speed and pushes the player in the opposite direction at a set speed.
This sounds a bit weird and robotic, I believe that if I’m jumping in a vertical direction, I should be pushed in a vertical direction! If I’m falling fast, I should be pushed with the same force. It doesn’t make physical sense, but it doesn’t have to, the important thing is to be fun! In the future, when Behaviors are more configurable, maybe this could be changed by the player?

Suggestion for a different animation for the grip behaviour: make the avatar’s arm rise towards the block as if it were grabbing (it doesn’t have to be towards the block, just raising the arms vertically is fine). Raised arm depends on which part of the body is facing the block!
