Custom Avatar Templates and Avatar Packs

Custom Avatar Templates

This feature is about being able to turn your avatar into one of the avatar templates, making it a perfect copy that can be used to do multiple variants of it.

Here’s how it should work:

  • After finishing an avatar, the player can have the option to turn it into a Custom Avatar Template, and add it to the templates page;

  • When buying a new avatar slot to build, there will be an option to buy between the Default Templates and Custom Templates (where the aforementioned avatar should appear).

Pros:

  • Extremely convenient method to make variants of your avatars (examples: StormTroopers variants, different clothing on your OCs and other characters, different versions of existing characters);

  • Much more productive and faster way of duplicating avatars instead of doing them from scratch;

  • Can also be used to make bodies that can be good guides for doing characters from series that have similar anatomy, facial traits and etc;

Cons:

  • Might be hard to counter players from selling exact same copies/barely changed avatars more than once.

Avatar Packs

Avatar Packs can be related to the Custom Templates. It’s about making collections of multiple avatars that can be sold later.

Here’s how it should work:

  • When having a bunch of avatars that are related someway, the player can have the option to group them on a Avatar Pack;

  • The Avatar Pack can be named, and also sold, but it should contain at least 2 avatars to be sold;

  • Inside the Avatar Pack, the avatars can also be bought separately

  • The more avatars the pack has, the more expensive it is when sold.

Pros:

  • Easy method to group and sell a collection of avatars from series or a multiple versions of the same;

  • Can be also used to organize and group avatars in the editor.

Cons:

  • Limit of avatars in a pack depends on multiple factors;

Both ideas are very nice and would greatly improve the workflow for avatar creators.

About packing assets, I started implementing textures packs before Textures were released on the workshop, but I discarded the idea. I think It will be much better to allow creating entire workshop bundles that can contain Avatars, Models and Textures inside the same pack. That doesn’t stop users from creating avatar-only bundles too.
